This is what happens to a cheeseburger in your stomach

It’s difficult to see what happens to food inside your body because we aren’t transparent, and it’s just as difficult to get a camera inside to watch for extended periods of time. What we do know is that our stomachs are full of hydrochloric acid.

The guys over at The Periodic Table of Videos, also known as the science department at Nottingham University, decided to recreate the basic food breakdown process of the human stomach by demonstrating what happens to a cheeseburger in hydrochloric acid.

The results, as you can see in the video, are not pretty. The burger turns black and goes slimy. Other acids are required to digest the fat, of which there is quite a bit in your typical burger.

So next time you have a cheeseburger and still have a full stomach a few hours later, know that it definitely doesn’t look like a burger anymore. Yuck.
